Hanoi, Vietnam (davie)
After Laos, we went to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. There was lots of people and there were cars and moterbikes everywhere. Here are a list of my favorite things that I did in Hanoi while staying here.
1. Playing Basketball
I went to a basketball court on the edge of town near a river. It was a VERY nice court, with about 30 people there. The hoops were nice, and it was not double rim. We did have to pay 30,000 dong to get in though (like 2 canadian each). I was very glad to play since It was the first time I had played since Byron Bay in Australia! I was very rusty though, but I was there for like 4 hours so by the end of it I was back to normal.
2. Shopping at markets
I love shopping at markets in South East Asia because things are like 10x more cheap. For example, I got these fake airpods for $10, and they look the exact same, and the sound quality was actually pretty good. I didnt really need earbuds, but ig I just got them because they were so cheap. I also got a fake airpod case, that is LV themed 💀. My mom also got some flip flops for like $3 or something like that. I wish things in Cancada were this cheap!!
3. Cooking Vietnamese foods at cooking class
We cooked all types of Vitnamese foods, like Pho, spring rolls, Bun cha, witch is like Pho but you dip the noodles into a sauce, and egg coffee, witch you use egg instead of milk, its very sweet, with makes it really good :] .
4. Visiting the prison museum
Prisoners were held here between late 1800s and 1996. They gave the prisoners 2 meals a day, and over 100 prisoners were held in a room at some times. Hundreds of people died in the prison, some from exicution, and most from diseases. Americans were also held there during the Vietnam war. But they were allowed to play basketball, volleyball, chess, and were given 3 meals a day. One day 100 Vietnamese people escaped through the vents, and windows, using a piece of scrap metal to brake through the bars. After that, the prison closed the windows and put stronger bars in, witch made air flow not possible. After that, many people died from breatheing bad air. There ankles were also chained up, causeing them to not run away.
5. Halong Bay
We left on a 1 night cruise to Halong Bay, it was very pretty, but there was some garbage floating around, I did not really care, but other people on the boat and my parents were a bit dissapoited. On the first day, we went to a cave, the cave was massive, and the biggest cave I have ever been too. On the same day we also went kyaking, there was coral and fish that you could see near the shoreline. This was my very first cruise so I was very excited, I got my own room with my sister. The rooms had 2 single beds, and a bathroom. That night we ate a very big dinner. I had sausage, noodles, juice, pho, tofu, bread, vegetables, fruit, pork, rice, fried rice with egg, and prawn. After dinner we went squid fishing off the boat, but I did not catch one :[ . but I saw 2 and I also saw a jellyfish and a massive fish. The next day we had to wake up early, because we had to go to this island. After finishing breakfast at around 7:30, we drove to the island and went to the viewpoint. It was an amazing view, you could see at least 30 boats, all in the bay in front of the island. I then went swimming, being the only person who swam besides some old dudes. The water very freezeing though, and it was even more cold getting out because it was so cold and windy.
