Plovdiv, Bulgaria -Davie

After our final stop in Greece (Thessaloniki) we rented a car and drove 5 hours to a city called Plovdiv in Bulgaria. When we arrived, it was late, but we had dinner in a nice place inside the city. 





The next day we went on a walking tour around the town. We saw lots of Roman and Greek ruins around the city. 
There even was ruins under the H&M💀

It was still very hot in Plovdiv, so in the afternoon we went to a swimming pool close to our airbnb. We swam around and stuff for a while until we went back to take a shower and get ready for dinner. For dinner we made pasta at our suite. 

On the last day we went to a natural history museum where we saw lots of stuffed animals, like bears, monkeys, bugs, and even a giraffe! Unfortunately they were all fake. In one part of the museum there was some alive animals. Like snakes and spiders😵. I wouldn't call this place a museum even though it was called that. Because there was no information about anything there 🤦‍♂️. After that we drove to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria!

Our stay in tigman village was so fun, we stayed there for 1 week and voulenteered planting mangrove trees, and in the afternoons I would go over to the school to teach the kids things, like math, english, and why they should protect the mangrove trees. I stayed in a dorm room with 2 other guys not including me and my dad. In the mornings, we had breakfast at 8:00, and started the voulenteer work from 9- 11 AM, before it got scourching hot out. The one thing that was my FAVORITE thing that I did here at Tigman village was the basketball court, it was an outdoor plaza that was covered by giant roof.  The kids from the village were so excited when I played basketball and teached at the school. Overall, I had a great time here and I thought it was an awesome experience! these were what the mangrove trees looked like.

Packing for a 9 month trip -Davie

Since we are traveling for a very long time, it's hard at first to decide what to pack! So even if you are going away for 1 month or more, these are the things that I highly recommend to pack in your suitcase! What to pack in your backpack: If you are traveling for a long time, it will get SO annoying if your backpack is very heavy, so I highly recommend to not put very heavy things in your backpack. In my backpack I have:  -my Nintendo switch -my homework  -my basketball  -and my water bottle  Also, try to think VERY carefully about what you are packing. I have sent countless things home with my friends and family. At the end of Japan, we sent a whole suitcase of things back with my Obachama and my Ojichama. For example, don't bring big fat headsets, try to bring airpods, earbuds, or wired earbuds if you can find them. Top Apps & Sites for Travel (Angie)

Travel Apps We Rely On We didn't have much planned before we left Vancouver for our 9-month trip. So we've been planning and booking as we go. Here are the important apps and sites we've been using! FLIGHT APPS To watch for the best flight deals, I've used Hopper and Skyscanner . Admittedly, when we go to book, we don't usually click from there but rather try to book directly with the airline to get the best deals AND to make sure we really understand the luggage allowances!  Tip : Skyscanner watches RyanAir discount flights in Europe, whereas Hopper does NOT seem to include that. Of course to minimize our costs, we have also maximized our points from Avion and Aeroplan! Luckily, managed to use points for 3 big flights.
