It's only $ 2.00 to go anywhere in town.  3. THE TEMPLES In Cambodia we went to alot of temples(Angkor Wat, ta Prohm, Bayoun, Beng Mealea, Koh Ker). My favourite one is Beng melea. Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Davie)

When we arrived in Phnom Penh, i could already tell it was a third world country. There was garbage everywhere and the roads were bumpy but i didnt care. Our hotel was nice, it had a nice shower and two really comfy beds. When we checked in, evryone was so nice to us, they gave us drinks in nice cups, and it was so nice and refreshing in the blasting heat. Our hotel also had an awesome view since we were on the tenth floor. After getting settled into our hotel room, we went to go have lunch at the hotel on the top floor, The view was amazing, it felt like you could see the whole city from it! For lunch I had a ham and cheese toasty with hot chips, which was very yummy. After eating lunch, we went into the pool. It was very cold so it was so refreshing. but i couldnt open my eyes under water because the pool had so much chlorine. After what felt like a million years, we finnaly got out. Then we took a tuk tuk to the night market. There we had dinner. I had beef and noodles for a good pr...

Packing for a 9 month trip (Angie)

When we first got the idea to travel for an extended period, my first question to others who had gone before us was -- "how do you pack for such a long trip??" Now that we've been travelling for 6 weeks, through various kinds of weather, accomodations and cultures, here is a summary of how we packed, and what has worked. 1 Small Suitcase + 1 Backpack + 1 Fanny Pack Each In order to save money on flights, make it easier to transport through trainstations or stairs, and be prepared for potential tiny aircraft -- we each have one small carry on suitcase that we check when it's included and carry on when it's not (though we already once ran into a weight limit and had to move things around, check two bags, and beg Virgin Australia to let two bags as carry-on even though they were 2 kg over their weight restriction). For the next several flights, I have now checked and they include (or I've now added on) one checked bag each, which makes liquids easier. Each of our...

Australia - Camping - Byron Bay (Dave)

Image
January 1st - January 6th After a great stay at Southwest Rocks we hit the road again for one of my favorite places in Australia, Byron Bay. 30 Years ago I lived on Bay Kebabs when my brother Rob and I were travelling up with our new Aussie friends for "Schoolies Week" and we stopped off in Byron for a weekend before continuing on to Surfers Paridise. It was just as delicious as I remember it. We also saw many Ibis in and around Byron but unfortunately unlike in Egypt where they are sacred and revered, in Oz they are held slightly less regard, referred to as "Bin Chickens." 😏We spent a lot of time surfing "The Pass" at Byron where there is a beautiful right hander you can ride all the way down the beach from the point.  Angie and I took a hike around the most easterly point in Australia to the famous lighthouse and it was  a really beautiful little hike. I would highly recommend walking along the beach to Wategos Beach and take the trail up.    We spent ...

DAY 1: After getting of the flight, we took a cab to our hotel where we immidiatly went to sleep because we were all so tired. The beds were very comfy. in the morning we had breakfast and then went to a place called gardens by the bay. These things that looked like pillars were so big! they had plants on them and there were about 10 of them, one of them there was even a veiwing deck!  the pillars   After looking at the big pillars, we went to this dome called the sky gardens where there was a huge waterfall and so many differernt types of plants! We learned about the plants and stuff and then took an elevator to the top, and there we took a walkway to look at the view from up top!  After leaving the sky gardens, we went into another dome area that had sooooooo many different plants, they looked so cool! They also had these dragon sculptures, those were also very intresting. I also reconized some plants that we have in Vancouver!  my favorite plant  A...

December 30th - January 1st After a great few days in Sydney we packed up the Jucy Van again and this time convoyed with Michelle and Stix and their camping trailer to head up the North Coast to beautiful South West Rocks Australia. We hooked up with Stacey and Erryn and his two boys Kai and Louie. Here we camped and surfed (and Erryn introduced us to the fine art of Foiling, which he is very, very passionate about. So much so that Foiling became the F word in our campsite!  The kids did some bridge jumping, fishing and generally ran amok through the campsite together. We celebrated New Years Eve and Ingenia HolidayPark SW Rocks where we stayed did a fireworks show for the site which was awesome. It rained a bit everyday but we still had a pretty great time here.

December 24th - 29th - Sydney The next few days were a blur in Sydney. We had the great fortune to have one of Michelle's friends (who was also a really good architect) not be able to Air BnB their house for the holidays so they let us stay there while they were visiting family. They had a gorgeous newly renovated house and it was great to park the van and sleep in a real bed for a few days. We were also able to tag along with Stix and Michelle to their friends Malcom and Amber's home for a delicious Holiday dinner with some of their friends. We went for a rock scramble around the rocks around freshwater beach and went through the Manly Wormhole to get to Queenscliff beach on the other side.  The rest of the week we heading into the city to walkabout and see Darling Harbour and the Opera House. Loki and Davie wanted to check out some of the Anime shops around Chinatown which is a really cool area to visit.  We surfed almost everyday off Freshwater Beach and I realized ho...

December 21st - 24th - Melbourne to Sydney We headed back to spend the day in busy Melbourne just before a Christmas weekend and it was busy but fun. We did a self guided audio tour of Melbourne that was really cool and added some historical perspective to visiting the city. I would recommend air pods or headphones to be shared since the city noise may interrupt the dialogue. Melbourne has a variety of really cool alleyways with street art and interesting restaurants all over the place which made going on walkabout there really fun.  We really enjoyed our day in the city and then drove on to Philip Island to see the Penguin Parade. The Penguin Parade is the emergence at dusk of the Philip Island Fairy (Small) Penguins. They are super small but it is really neat to see them coming out of the water. One consideration if you ever think of going is to dress warm...I mean ski suit warm! It was freezing waiting for an hour with the wind at the beach and as soon as a first then a second g...
