I've paid this before, and this trip is no different! 🙄 Stupid things, forgetfulness, and mistakes we've made on our travels that we've had to pay "big bucks" to correct!  Here's a list so far (and I'll continue to updated if we still don't learn from mistakes)! 1. Stolen cash Where : Homestay in Fiji Mistake : not locking away $500 in cash in am envelope! Argh! We had locked away devices, laptops, passports and most of our foreign cash. But there was a certain special stash of cash I was transporting from my mom to our kids and niece/nephew for Christmas. I thought it was hidden inside a notebook. Our homestay host warned us to lock up our things, as everyone in the small village knows each other so no one has locks. And I guess the idea that is foreigners had gone out for the day was too tempting for someone.  Cost : $500 to replace all the cash!  2. We arrived in Ho Chi Minh after flying from Siem Reap Cambodia. The national flower of Vietnam is the lotus flower and it inspired the building where the skydeck is on. A few of my friends are also from Vietnam, like Vivian, and Hunter. Ho Chi Minh was named after the president in the 1900s. I could tell that Vietnam was a more developed then Cambodia. As we drove through the streets, I could see as if there were thousands of motorcycles or mopeds on the streets, and even on the sidewalk. Most of them were wearing helmets, as in Cambodia most people were not. There were also no tuk tuks here unlike Cambodia.  When we arrived at our hotel, we put our bags down in our room and then went to go have dinner. For dinner we had Churches chicken. I had 3 friend spicy chicken legs, coleslaw, biscuits, hot chips, and sprite :]. Then we went to a best buy type store where we found out that phones are cheaper here too! But we didn't get anything. Here are my 4 fun things I did in Cambodia  1.THE NIGHT MARKETS The night market is a place where you can shop and eat.At the night markets in Cambodia it is super cheep and a fule meal is $2.50. 2.TUK TUK  In Cambodia every body rides a Tuk Tuk. my family and I rode Tuk Tuks alot. It's only $ 2.00 to go anywhere in town.  3. THE TEMPLES In Cambodia we went to alot of temples(Angkor Wat, ta Prohm, Bayoun, Beng Mealea, Koh Ker). My favourite one is Beng melea. I liked it the most because it had trees all over. 4. My dad's suprise party  For my dad's suprise party, his best friends (Mike, Nick, and eckford) suprised him in Siem Reap.they traveled with him for 5 days.

When we arrived in Phnom Penh, i could already tell it was a third world country. There was garbage everywhere and the roads were bumpy but i didnt care. Our hotel was nice, it had a nice shower and two really comfy beds. When we checked in, evryone was so nice to us, they gave us drinks in nice cups, and it was so nice and refreshing in the blasting heat. Our hotel also had an awesome view since we were on the tenth floor. After getting settled into our hotel room, we went to go have lunch at the hotel on the top floor, The view was amazing, it felt like you could see the whole city from it! For lunch I had a ham and cheese toasty with hot chips, which was very yummy. After eating lunch, we went into the pool. It was very cold so it was so refreshing. but i couldnt open my eyes under water because the pool had so much chlorine. After what felt like a million years, we finnaly got out. When we first got the idea to travel for an extended period, my first question to others who had gone before us was -- "how do you pack for such a long trip??" Now that we've been travelling for 6 weeks, through various kinds of weather, accomodations and cultures, here is a summary of how we packed, and what has worked. 1 Small Suitcase + 1 Backpack + 1 Fanny Pack Each In order to save money on flights, make it easier to transport through trainstations or stairs, and be prepared for potential tiny aircraft -- we each have one small carry on suitcase that we check when it's included and carry on when it's not (though we already once ran into a weight limit and had to move things around, check two bags, and beg Virgin Australia to let two bags as carry-on even though they were 2 kg over their weight restriction).  January 1st - January 6th After a great stay at Southwest Rocks we hit the road again for one of my favorite places in Australia, Byron Bay. 30 Years ago I lived on Bay Kebabs when my brother Rob and I were travelling up with our new Aussie friends for "Schoolies Week" and we stopped off in Byron for a weekend before continuing on to Surfers Paridise. It was just as delicious as I remember it. We also saw many Ibis in and around Byron but unfortunately unlike in Egypt where they are sacred and revered, in Oz they are held slightly less regard, referred to as "Bin Chickens." 😏We spent a lot of time surfing "The Pass" at Byron where there is a beautiful right hander you can ride all the way down the beach from the point.  Angie and I took a hike around the most easterly point in Australia to the famous lighthouse and it was  a really beautiful little hike.  DAY 1: After getting of the flight, we took a cab to our hotel where we immidiatly went to sleep because we were all so tired. The beds were very comfy. in the morning we had breakfast and then went to a place called gardens by the bay. These things that looked like pillars were so big! they had plants on them and there were about 10 of them, one of them there was even a veiwing deck!  the pillars   After looking at the big pillars, we went to this dome called the sky gardens where there was a huge waterfall and so many differernt types of plants! We learned about the plants and stuff and then took an elevator to the top, and there we took a walkway to look at the view from up top!  After leaving the sky gardens, we went into another dome area that had sooooooo many different plants, they looked so cool!
